I don’t know about you, but I’m the type of gal who likes to get the most bang for my buck when it comes to products and services. I value efficiency and if something promises to serve more than one function and solve a problem for me, then I am all in! So I wanted to start a series showing you just how versatile your everyday makeup products can be. I think after being in the beauty industry for the last 6.5 years, I have learned that ingenuity is key, there are no hard fast rules and just because something was designed for an intended purpose, doesn’t mean it should only be used for that. So here’s part one of my series and I decided to start with my most favorite makeup product to play with…eyeshadows. By treating products as if they have multiple purposes, you’ll find this saves you time with your makeup application and money (that makes my hubby and my wallet happy!)
We’re starting with eyeshadow because I feel this is one of the most versatile products I have in my makeup palette. Let’s talk about 5 places you can use eyeshadow during your application.
Ok this is a no brainer…using eyeshadow for its intended purpose, as an eyeshadow! Use it on the crease, over the lid, the outer corner, even under the eye, but think of it like highlighting and contouring your face but your eyes! This will help add depth and dimension and even drama if you like. I challenge you to look in your makeup bag or palette at the shades you have and see what combos you can create! You can check out my latest tutorial on applying eyeshadow here for some tips and tricks!
Did you ever consider this one?! Now obviously this will depend on what shades you have in your palette, but add to your blush options by trying this hack! You can use your matte shadows and even your subtle shimmers and treat them as if they are a traditional powder blush. Grab your fluffy blush brush and give this option a try. I've linked a tutorial on blush placement here if you're new to using a blush product!
This is one of my favorites and I use daily! If you’ve never filled in your brows with something, I won’t get on my soapbox now but know I strongly feel a little TLC goes a long ways, then you're missing out. Filling in your brows with an eyeshadow will give you a softer appearance, when compared to using a contour or pomade, it will give the appearance of an instant face lift and will provide a frame for your face. You’ll want a small brush, I typically use an angled one, and the right eyeshadow shade (check out the examples below) and you’ll be amazed at the impact this simple trick can have.
This one is for the shimmer shadows! Grab your shimmer shade and double it as a powder illuminator/highlighter. This will leave you will a dewy, youthful glow and will help add dimension to the face. I’ve created this guide of the best places to apply illuminator, so grab your shimmer shade and use either your finger, beauty blender or a small brush and give it a try!
Grab one of your favorite shades, pair it with a lip balm, chapstick or gloss and you can create your very own lip color! I usually use a semi-gloss product when doing this hack as the matte shade will cut the shine. You can apply your gloss product first and then your eyeshadow on top, but another option is mixing your gloss/balm product and your eyeshadow on your hand or makeup mirror and then apply to your lips. You can use your fingers to apply or a lip brush!
